Opened in 1994 on an engineered island off Osaka, Kansai International Airport is the Kansai region’s major international gateway with two passenger terminals and a distinctive Sky Gate Bridge. The airport is large enough to handle long-haul and regional traffic yet compact to navigate, serving as a hub for low-cost carrier Peach Aviation and a base for several budget airlines including Jetstar Japan. Excellent public transport links include the JR Haruka limited express and Nankai Rapi:t to Osaka and Kyoto, frequent airport buses to Kobe, Nara and the city center, plus car access via the bridge. With many LCC options and affordable train and bus fares, KIX is generally good value for travelers.
