Founded in 2013, Vanilla Air was a Japanese low-cost carrier operating domestic and short-haul international routes, mainly linking Tokyo’s Narita and regional airports with nearby Asian destinations. Advantages included competitive base fares, straightforward fare bundles and support from parent All Nippon Airways that aided operational reliability and generally good punctuality. Disadvantages were a limited route network, sparse onboard services, tight seating and numerous ancillary fees common to LCCs. It did not hold a prominent Skytrax rating.
