John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), opened in 1948 as Idlewild and renamed in 1963, is New York City’s largest international gateway with six passenger terminals (1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8) serving millions of travelers annually. As one of the busiest transatlantic hubs in the U.S., JFK is a major base for Delta Air Lines and JetBlue and a key gateway for American and numerous international carriers. Ground access is excellent via the AirTrain (connecting to the NYC subway and LIRR at Jamaica), express buses, taxis and major highways, making Manhattan and Long Island easy to reach. On-site parking and dining tend to be pricey, though competitive low-cost fares and seasonal deals make finding cheap flights possible.
