Cochin International Airport (COK), opened in 1999, is Kerala’s busiest gateway and a mid‑sized international airport known for being the world’s first fully solar‑powered commercial airport. It operates from one main passenger terminal with multiple concourses handling domestic and international flights, and plays a key role in spice and seafood exports as well as tourism to the Kerala backwaters. Located in Nedumbassery about 25–30 km from central Kochi, it has strong road links, regular KSRTC and private airport buses, taxis and nearby rail connections for easy access. COK is generally affordable thanks to many low‑cost carriers, and serves as a base for Air India Express with major operations by IndiGo and SpiceJet.
