Aspen Airport (Sardy Field) opened in the post‑war 1940s and remains a compact, high‑altitude gateway to the Colorado Rockies, with a single terminal handling most commercial flights and seasonal charters. Though small in size, ASE is a crucial connection for Aspen, Snowmass and nearby resort towns, about 5 miles from downtown via Highway 82 and linked by regional shuttles, RFTA buses, car rentals and ride‑shares. Flights tend to be seasonal and pricier during ski season, so travelers often find fares and onsite costs above average. Not a major hub, ASE is served by major U.S. carriers—United, American, Delta and Alaska—plus seasonal operators like JetBlue and Sun Country.
