Japan Transocean Air was founded in 1967. The Okinawa-based regional carrier, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines, operates short-haul domestic services across the Ryukyu Islands and to major Japanese cities. Advantages include a concentrated local route network, good connections through JAL’s systems and loyalty program, typically strong punctuality and courteous Japanese-style onboard service and cabin comfort on short sectors. Disadvantages are a limited network and fleet size, few international options, lower frequency on some routes and generally higher fares than low-cost carriers. It operates as a regional/full-service carrier rather than an LCC and is not known to hold a Skytrax rating.
