Founded in 1993, AirTran Airways was a U.S. low-cost carrier offering budget fares and a practical domestic-focused route network with some Caribbean and Mexico services. Advantages included competitive pricing, simple fares, a largely efficient point-to-point network and generally modern aircraft; disadvantages were basic, no-frills onboard service with ancillary fees, mixed punctuality and uneven customer service. The carrier was acquired by Southwest Airlines in 2011 and integrated by 2014. No widely recognized Skytrax star rating is listed.
