Whyalla Airport (IATA: WYA) opened in the mid-1950s and is a compact regional airport with a single terminal serving the Eyre Peninsula city of Whyalla; it punches above its size by linking residents and industry to Adelaide and supporting charter flights for mining and offshore work. Located a short drive from the town center, the airport is easily reached by car, taxi or local shuttle with basic car-hire on site and limited public-bus options. Generally affordable for domestic travel, fares can rise when seats are scarce; Regional Express (Rex) is the main scheduled carrier while charters provide additional capacity.
