Vitoria Airport, commonly known locally as Foronda, opened in the late 1930s and operates from a single compact terminal, making it an easy-to-navigate gateway for the Basque Country. While modest in passenger numbers, Vitoria is notable as a cargo and maintenance base and attracts seasonal and low-cost services, offering a generally affordable alternative to larger Spanish airports for bargain hunters. The airport sits about 8–10 km from Vitoria-Gasteiz and is served by regular shuttle buses, taxis and direct access to the A-1 motorway for quick links to Bilbao, San Sebastián and Pamplona. It isn’t a major airline hub, but it handles regional and charter operators.
