Tucson International Airport opened in the late 1960s and today operates a single passenger terminal with two concourses, serving as Southern Arizona’s primary commercial gateway and the state’s second‑busiest airport after Phoenix. Compact but well-equipped, it handles a mix of year‑round and seasonal routes and is a convenient gateway to the University of Arizona and Sonoran Desert attractions. Located about 7 miles south of downtown Tucson, the airport is easily reached via I‑10 and multiple shuttle, taxi and local bus services, with on‑site car rentals. Not a major hub, it’s generally more affordable than larger airports and sees significant service from low‑cost carriers (notably Allegiant) alongside Southwest, American, Delta and United.
