Tanegashima

Tanegashima Airport (TNE) opened in the early 1960s and operates from a single compact domestic terminal, serving as the island’s main aviation gateway. Small but strategically important for visitors to the Tanegashima Space Center and island beaches, it links Tanegashima with Kagoshima on the mainland and other regional hubs. Ground connections include local buses, taxis and rental cars that reach towns such as Nakatane and Nishinoomote, with onward ferry and rail/bus connections from Kagoshima city. Served mainly by Japan Air Commuter (JAC/JAL group) and occasional charters, the airport is not a hub and fares tend to be mid-to-high compared with mainland airports.
