Orlando International Airport opened in the mid-1970s after the former McCoy Air Force Base was converted for civilian use and today features a main terminal with two airside concourses (effectively two terminal complexes) serving one of the busiest travel markets in the U.S. As Central Florida’s primary gateway, MCO handles a huge mix of domestic and international traffic and is the go-to airport for Orlando’s theme parks and convention center. It’s easily reached via I‑4 and SR‑528, with plentiful shuttle, rideshare and bus services and on-site people-mover connections to parking and transit; flights are often affordable thanks to strong low-cost carrier presence, although parking and dining can be pricey. The airport functions as a major base or focus city for carriers such as Southwest, Frontier, Spirit and JetBlue, with extensive service from Delta and American as well.
