O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), opened in 1952 and renamed for anti-apartheid leader Oliver Tambo in 2006, is South Africa’s largest and busiest airport, serving as the primary international gateway to Johannesburg and the country. The airport operates through two main passenger terminals (domestic and international) and extensive satellite concourses, handling long-haul and regional traffic. Well connected to the city by the Gautrain rapid rail link to Sandton and Pretoria, multiple express highways, shuttle services and taxis, JNB is convenient for both business and leisure travelers. Generally mid-to-high in on-site prices but competitively priced flights, it is a hub for South African Airways and a base for local carriers such as Mango and kulula.
