Sapporo’s Okadama Airport opened in 1943 (originally as a military airfield) and today operates a single compact terminal serving mainly domestic routes across Hokkaido and Honshu. As a small but important regional airport, Okadama handles turboprops and regional jets for quick hops to Tokyo and nearby cities, making it a convenient alternative to New Chitose for time-sensitive travelers. Located about 7 km northeast of central Sapporo, the airport is reachable by city bus and taxi in roughly 20–30 minutes, with limited shuttle services to major stations. Fares tend to be competitively priced for domestic travel, and the field functions as a base for regional carriers such as Hokkaido Air System while hosting frequent ANA domestic services.
