Mehrabad International Airport

Mehrabad International Airport (THR), opened in 1938, is Tehran’s historic domestic gateway with about four passenger terminals handling most internal flights and some regional services. Once the city’s primary international airport, Mehrabad remains a busy mid-size hub crucial for domestic connections across Iran and for budget-minded travelers hunting cheap tickets to Tehran. The airport sits roughly 8–10 km west of central Tehran and is well connected by taxi, airport buses and the Mehrabad metro link, making transfers to the city quick and convenient. Mehrabad is generally considered affordable compared with international terminals, and it serves as a base for Iran Air and several domestic carriers such as Mahan Air, Aseman and Zagros.
