Luxor International Airport (IATA: LXR), opened in the mid-20th century (around the 1960s), is a compact but busy gateway to Egypt’s ancient sites, with one main terminal split into domestic and international halls. Located about 6–8 km northeast of Luxor city center, the airport offers quick taxi and hotel-shuttle links, occasional public buses and easy road access to the nearby railway for connections to Aswan and Cairo. Serving as the primary entry point for Nile Valley tourism, LXR hosts scheduled flights from EgyptAir, Nile Air, Air Cairo and numerous seasonal charter carriers; fares are generally affordable though prices rise in peak season.
