Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU), opened in 1963 and renamed in 2007 after dissident Jože Pučnik, is Slovenia’s main international gateway, a medium-sized airport with one passenger terminal serving several million travelers a year. Located near the village of Brnik about 26 km north of Ljubljana, it’s well connected by the A2 motorway, regular airport shuttle buses, scheduled coaches to Ljubljana and nearby towns, taxis and car rental options (no direct rail link). Generally more affordable than major European hubs thanks to strong low-cost carrier presence, LJU was formerly the hub for Adria Airways and today hosts routes from Wizz Air, Ryanair, Lufthansa and other European carriers.
