Lamu Airport (LAU), opened in the 1970s, is a compact single‑terminal gateway to Kenya’s UNESCO-listed Lamu Archipelago, handling mostly domestic and regional light aircraft and charter flights. Small but strategically important for tourism, the airport sits on Manda Island with a short boat or shuttle transfer to Lamu Old Town and nearby beach villages, and occasional road connections via Manda. Carriers such as Safarilink and AirKenya operate regular services to Nairobi and Mombasa, while seasonal charters increase capacity. Onsite facilities are basic and affordable, though airfares can run higher than mainland routes during peak season.
