Kapalua Airport (JHM), opened in the late 1980s, is a tiny, scenic gateway tucked into northwest Maui that primarily serves resort travelers bound for Kapalua, Kāʻanapali and historic Lahaina. The airport has a single compact terminal and a short runway that accommodate small turboprops and inter-island hops; it’s one of Hawaii’s smaller, regional airports rather than a major hub. Ground access is convenient—about 20–30 minutes to Lahaina and roughly 40–45 minutes to Kahului—with shuttles, taxis and rental cars linking nearby resorts. Airfares here tend to be mid-range to slightly higher than bigger airports due to limited service, and the field is served by regional commuter carriers such as Mokulele and other small inter-island operators rather than major airline hubs.
