Honolulu International Airport opened in 1927 and today operates as one large terminal complex with several concourses and a separate commuter terminal, serving as the primary gateway to Oahu and the wider Hawaiian Islands. As Hawaii’s busiest airport, it handles a mix of domestic and transpacific traffic and is the main hub for Hawaiian Airlines, with frequent service from major US and Asian carriers. Located just west of downtown Honolulu, the airport is easily reached by the H‑1 freeway, airport shuttles, taxis, rideshares and TheBus public transit. Prices can be pricier than mainland routes due to island demand, though seasonal deals and low-cost carriers help keep fares competitive.
