Kaohsiung International Airport opened in 1929 and today operates two passenger terminals, serving as southern Taiwan’s main gateway for domestic and regional flights. Medium-sized but strategically important, the airport connects Kaohsiung with major Asian hubs and leisure destinations, and is well linked to the city by the Kaohsiung MRT Red Line, frequent airport buses, taxis and easy transfers to the Zuoying High-Speed Rail station. Known for competitive fares and a strong presence of low-cost carriers, it’s generally more affordable than northern Taiwan airports. It also hosts regular services from major Taiwanese carriers and bases several budget and regional operators.
