Chiayi Airport

Chiayi Airport (IATA: CYI), opened in the 1970s, is a compact regional airport serving Chiayi City and as a gateway to Alishan and nearby Penghu islands; it operates from a single terminal and handles mostly domestic flights and occasional charter services. Despite its small size, CYI is important for travelers heading to southern Taiwan, offering regular connections to Taipei and island-hopping routes. The airport is easily accessible by road from Chiayi city center (around a 20–30 minute drive), with local buses, taxis and shuttle links to Chiayi HSR/TRA stations. Generally affordable for budget-conscious travelers, it’s served mainly by Uni Air and Mandarin Airlines rather than acting as a major hub.
