Islamabad International Airport opened in 2018 as Pakistan’s modern gateway for the capital region, replacing the older Benazir Bhutto International facility. The airport operates from a single, spacious passenger terminal and sits on the country’s largest airport site by land area, handling a mix of domestic and international flights and serving the Islamabad–Rawalpindi metro as a major hub. Located roughly 25–35 km from central Islamabad, it’s accessible via the Islamabad Highway with regular airport shuttles, taxis and ride‑hail services, and has plans for rail/metro connections. Generally seen as budget‑friendly for travelers compared with many global hubs, it is a key base for Pakistan International Airlines and home to significant operations from AirBlue and Serene Air, making it easy to find competitively priced tickets to regional destinations.
