Opened for scheduled commercial flights in 2020 after runway and terminal upgrades, Darbhanga Airport operates from a single domestic terminal and functions as a compact but important regional gateway for Darbhanga and northern Bihar. The airport provides convenient connections to major Indian cities and a handy alternative to busy Patna, sitting roughly 8–10 km from Darbhanga city center and about 10–12 km from Darbhanga Junction rail station; taxis, autorickshaws and local buses link the airport to surrounding towns. Generally budget-friendly thanks to UDAN routes and low-cost carriers, the airport sees regular services from SpiceJet and occasional flights by other Indian airlines.
