Chikkalthana Airport

Chikkalthana Airport (IXU), commonly called Aurangabad Airport, began life as a mid-20th century airfield and opened to regular commercial traffic in the 1990s; today it operates from a single compact terminal serving the Marathwada region. As the primary gateway to Aurangabad and nearby UNESCO sites like Ajanta and Ellora, the airport handles regional and domestic routes and is an important, modestly sized alternative to larger Maharashtra airports. Located about 10–15 km from Aurangabad city, it’s easily reached by taxi, app-cab, and local buses, with car hire available for day trips. Prices are generally budget-friendly on domestic carriers, with frequent services by IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India Regional, though IXU is not a major airline hub.
