Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu Airport, opened in the 1920s and one of Europe’s oldest aerodromes, is a compact, conveniently located gateway just north of central Bucharest with a single small passenger terminal serving mainly regional, charter and business flights. Historically important before Otopeni grew, Băneasa remains a handy option for travelers headed to northern neighborhoods, Băneasa shopping areas and Herăstrău Park, reachable by car, taxi, local buses and a short transfer from the Aurel Vlaicu metro stop. It’s not a major airline hub—more a base for charters and small operators—and with fewer low-cost routes fares can be slightly higher than Otopeni’s budget options.
