Allama Iqbal International Airport, opened in the early 1960s, is Lahore’s main international gateway and one of Pakistan’s busiest airports, serving Punjab’s capital with two passenger terminals plus a cargo complex after several expansions. The mid-to-large size airport handles a mix of domestic and regional routes and acts as a key base for Pakistan International Airlines while also serving as a focus city for private carriers such as Airblue and SereneAir. Located roughly 15–20 km from downtown Lahore, it’s well connected via the Ring Road and motorway with taxis, app-based rides and periodic bus services linking nearby cities. Fares on regional and domestic sectors are generally competitive, making it a relatively affordable entry point for travelers.
