Founded in 1990, Transaero was Russia’s first privately owned scheduled carrier and operated until ceasing operations in 2015. A full‑service, legacy airline rather than a low‑cost carrier, it provided an extensive domestic and international route network and operated long‑haul widebody aircraft with business‑class cabins. Advantages included broad connectivity, relatively generous onboard space and premium seating options; disadvantages were chronic financial instability leading to bankruptcy, service and punctuality inconsistencies, and uneven cabin standards across the fleet.
