Founded in 1926, Northwest was a major U.S. legacy carrier best known for an extensive transpacific network and significant domestic coverage with hubs in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Detroit and a large cargo hub in Memphis. Advantages included wide route choice, established cargo and alliance partnerships and full-service amenities with premium cabins; disadvantages involved periodic labor and financial pressures, an aging fleet late in its independent existence, and mixed punctuality and onboard consistency. It was a traditional full-service carrier, not a low-cost airline. Following its 2008 merger into Delta Air Lines, no current Skytrax rating applies.
