Zanderij International Airport

Zanderij International Airport, opened in 1953 and later renamed Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport, is Suriname’s main international gateway about a 45–60 minute drive south of Paramaribo. The airport operates from a single passenger terminal and handles a mix of regional and long-haul connections, serving as the hub for national carrier Surinam Airways alongside several smaller regional operators. Ground access includes taxis, shared shuttles, car rental and limited bus service, with straightforward road links to surrounding towns. Amenities are modest but functional, and ticket prices tend toward mid-range—sometimes pricier than larger hubs due to limited competition, though seasonal deals can offer savings.
