Wollongong’s Illawarra Regional Airport (WOL), dating back to the mid-20th century, is a compact regional airport with a single small terminal that serves the Illawarra and South Coast communities. Located at Albion Park/Shellharbour about 20–30 minutes’ drive from central Wollongong and roughly 90–100 km south of Sydney, the airport is a convenient entry point for beachside getaways and business trips. Ground connections include the Princes Highway, local buses, taxis and shuttle services, plus easy parking for self-drivers. Not a hub for major carriers, WOL is home to flight schools and charter operators and sees occasional regional services; fares are generally affordable compared with larger city airports.
