Van Ferit Melen Airport opened in the 1940s and today operates from a single passenger terminal, serving as a modest but important gateway to the city of Van and Lake Van in eastern Turkey. The compact regional airport handles mostly domestic flights with some seasonal international connections, making it an efficient arrival point for travelers heading to Tatvan, Bitlis or the Iranian border region. Located roughly 15–20 km from Van city center, it’s accessible by shuttle buses, municipal buses, taxis and car hire for a roughly 20–30 minute transfer. Fares are generally affordable compared with major hubs, with Turkish Airlines and its AnadoluJet arm providing the bulk of services and occasional other carriers on seasonal routes.
