Utapao Airport opened in 1966 as a Royal Thai Navy airfield and today operates a single main passenger terminal serving the Rayong–Pattaya area; it’s a medium-sized regional gateway that handles charter flights and growing low-cost services. Located near Ban Chang, about 40 km from Pattaya and roughly 120–140 km southeast of Bangkok, Utapao is easily reached by Highway 36/7 with taxis, airport shuttles and regional buses; a rail link is planned as part of the Eastern Economic Corridor. Fares tend to be affordable thanks to budget carriers, and while not a major international hub it acts as a base for several low-cost airlines such as Thai VietJet and Nok Air.
