Tulear Airport, serving the coastal city of Toliara, opened in the mid-20th century (around the 1960s) and remains a compact regional gateway with a single small terminal and one runway. As the main air link to southwestern Madagascar, it handles mostly domestic flights and seasonal charters rather than large international traffic, making it an important hub for access to nearby beaches, national parks and the RN7 road corridor. Ground connections are straightforward—taxis, local shuttles and car hires provide a short drive from the city center—though public transport is limited. Prices for routes are generally affordable on domestic carriers, and the airport is a base for Madagascar’s domestic operators such as Tsaradia and smaller regional airlines.
