Thandwe Airport opened in the mid-20th century (circa the 1940s) and is a compact regional airport with a single small terminal serving Rakhine State and the popular Ngapali Beach resort. Though modest in size, it’s an important gateway for domestic travelers and offers regular connections to Yangon and other regional hubs via local carriers. Ground access is straightforward with taxis and shuttle transfers taking roughly 20–30 minutes to Ngapali and short drives into Thandwe town; public bus options are limited. The airport tends to be affordable for domestic travelers, with flights from Myanmar National Airlines, Air KBZ and other local operators rather than major international hubs.
