Tampico International Airport (TAM), opened in the mid-20th century, is a compact regional airport with a single passenger terminal serving Tampico, Ciudad Madero and the Gulf Coast industrial corridor. As the main gateway to Playa Miramar and the Port of Altamira, the airport handles primarily domestic traffic and a handful of regional connections, making it important for both leisure and business travelers tied to the oil and shipping sectors. Located a short drive from downtown Tampico, it’s reachable by taxi, local buses, shuttles and car rental; public transit is limited but connections are straightforward. Generally considered affordable with competitive domestic fares, TAM is not a large airline hub but is regularly served by carriers such as Aeroméxico Connect, VivaAerobus and Volaris alongside regional operators.
