Surat Thani Airport (URT), opened in the late 1970s, is a compact regional airport in Phunphin District serving Surat Thani province and the Gulf island gateways; it operates from a single small passenger terminal and handles mainly domestic and charter flights. As an important transit point for travelers heading to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, the airport is about 20–30 km from Surat Thani city and is well linked by shuttle buses, taxis and road transfers to Donsak pier and the main railway station. With regular low-cost services from Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Bangkok Airways, fares tend to be budget-friendly rather than expensive.
