Simón Bolívar International Airport (Maiquetía), opened in 1945, is Venezuela’s main international gateway serving Caracas and the central coastal region. The airport has two main passenger terminals plus cargo facilities and handles a mix of international and domestic flights, making it one of the country’s busiest air hubs. Located roughly 20–25 km from downtown Caracas on the Caribbean coast, CCS is most easily reached by the Autopista Caracas–La Guaira with frequent taxis, shuttle services and car hire available—public transit is limited and travel times depend on traffic. Generally moderately affordable for regional and domestic travel but international fares can be higher and variable; the airport serves as a hub for Conviasa and a base for local carriers such as Avior and Laser Airlines.
