Sanya Phoenix International Airport (SYX), opened in the early 1990s, is a compact but busy gateway to Hainan’s beach resort city Sanya, with two main terminals handling domestic and international services. As the island’s southern aviation hub, SYX connects holidaymakers to major Chinese cities and seasonal international routes; it functions as a focus city for carriers such as Hainan Airlines and China Southern while low-cost carriers like Spring and XiamenAir also operate regular flights. The airport sits roughly 15–20 km from downtown Sanya with shuttle buses, taxis and regional buses linking to the city and rail stations, making transfers straightforward. Fares are generally competitive—especially off-peak—though prices rise during Chinese holidays and peak travel season.
