Santorini International Airport, originally opened in 1972, is a compact single‑terminal gateway to the Cyclades and the island’s main entry point for millions of summer visitors. Small but busy and highly seasonal, it handles a mix of domestic flights to Athens and international charters, serving as a focus city for carriers like Aegean/Olympic Air and Greek low‑cost operators such as Sky Express, alongside many European low‑cost airlines. Located near Kamari and roughly 6–8 km from Fira with regular buses, taxis and car rentals linking to Athinios port and beaches, the airport is convenient but services and prices tend to be mid‑to‑high, especially in peak season.
