Putao Airport, established in the mid-20th century, is a small regional airfield with a single compact terminal that acts as the primary gateway to northern Myanmar’s remote Hkakabo Razi region and popular trekking routes. Though modest in size, it is important for connecting Putao with larger hubs via domestic flights, typically linking to Myitkyina and onward to Mandalay or Yangon through one-stop services. Ground access is limited—expect short taxi or jeep transfers rather than frequent public buses—so air travel is often the most practical option. Not a major airline hub, it is served by Myanmar National Airlines and smaller regional operators; fares can be pricier than other domestic routes due to limited competition, while on-site costs remain relatively modest.
