Pico Island Airport opened in 1982 and operates from a single, compact terminal that handles regional traffic and seasonal connections; it’s the small but important gateway to Pico Island and the iconic Mount Pico. Located a short drive from Madalena and the island’s main ferry port, the airport offers taxi and limited bus services plus easy road links to nearby villages, while regular ferries connect travelers to Faial and São Jorge for onward journeys. Generally seen as affordable for short inter-island hops, fares to the Portuguese mainland can be higher at peak times. The airport is primarily served by SATA Air Açores, with occasional seasonal flights by Azores Airlines and other carriers.
