Nhulunbuy Airport

Nhulunbuy Airport, serving the Gove Peninsula and East Arnhem Land, opened in the early 1970s (around 1971) and operates from a single small terminal that handles regional and charter services. As the primary air link for Nhulunbuy and surrounding Indigenous communities, it’s a modest but important gateway for mining crews, tourists and locals traveling to Darwin and occasional services to Cairns. Ground access is limited—car hire and local taxis are the main options—and public transport is minimal, so flights are key for connectivity. Flights are generally pricier than major-city routes due to remoteness, and the field is a base for regional carrier Airnorth and various charter operators.
