Ngurah Rai International Airport in southern Bali originally opened as a small airfield in 1931 and has grown into the island’s main gateway with two main terminals (separate domestic and international areas) after a major upgrade in the 2010s. It’s a busy medium‑to‑large airport serving millions of tourists each year, located about 13 km south of Denpasar and just minutes from Kuta and Seminyak, with taxis, shuttle buses, hotel transfers and public buses providing easy connections. While on-site food and taxis can be pricey, many budget carriers fly here making flights to Bali generally affordable; the airport is a key focus city for Garuda Indonesia and a base for low‑cost airlines like Lion Air, Batik Air and AirAsia.
