Nadzab Airport (IATA: LAE) in Morobe Province opened as an airfield during World War II in 1943 and today operates a single small passenger terminal serving Lae and the Highlands. As Papua New Guinea’s key regional gateway outside Port Moresby, Nadzab handles cargo and domestic traffic and connects via frequent scheduled flights to Port Moresby and other domestic destinations; ground access to Lae is by road — roughly 40 km southeast — with shuttle transfers, taxis and charter options common. Generally affordable for short domestic hops, the airport is an operational base for PNG carriers such as Air Niugini and PNG Air and is important for mining and regional logistics.
