Murtala Muhammed International Airport opened in the late 1970s (1979) and is Lagos’s main gateway, featuring two primary passenger terminals—separate domestic and international facilities—handling the highest passenger volumes in Nigeria. As a major West African aviation hub, it supports significant domestic and regional traffic and is a base for carriers such as Air Peace, Dana Air and Arik Air. Located in Ikeja roughly 10–15 minutes from Lagos’s business districts in light traffic, the airport is best reached by road via taxis, shuttles and bus services; travel times can vary with heavy congestion. Prices for flights are often competitive on domestic routes, though ground transport and on-site services can feel moderately expensive during peak periods.
