Moosonee

Moosonee Airport, established in the mid-20th century, is a single-terminal regional field that acts as a vital gateway to Ontario’s James Bay coast and nearby First Nations communities. Small but strategically important, the airport handles scheduled regional flights, charters, cargo and medevac services linking Moosonee with larger northern hubs. Ground access is unique — many travelers arrive by the Ontario Northland Polar Bear Express rail service or local boats to adjacent Moose Factory, with limited seasonal road access — and local shuttles and taxis connect the terminal to town. Because of limited competition, fares can be pricier than southern airports, and the airport is not a base or major hub for any national carrier, instead served by regional operators.
