Minangkabau International Airport

Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), opened in 2005, is the main gateway to Padang and West Sumatra and operates a single passenger terminal with separate domestic and international concourses. This medium-sized international airport handles a mix of domestic and regional routes and is the convenient starting point for trips to Bukittinggi, the Mentawai Islands and Sumatran highlands. Ground access is straightforward — about a 30–45 minute drive from Padang with taxis, airport shuttles and car rentals linking nearby cities and towns — and public bus services connect to regional hubs. PDG is generally affordable for domestic travelers, and functions as a regional base for carriers such as Lion Air group airlines, Batik Air and Garuda Indonesia on key routes.
