Maun Airport opened in the 1970s and today operates with two passenger areas—a main terminal and a smaller regional/safari terminal—serving as Botswana’s primary gateway to the Okavango Delta. Small-to-medium in size but vital for tourism, Maun handles scheduled flights and a large number of charter transfers to lodges, making it a busy seasonal hub. The airport is roughly 8–10 km from Maun town center with taxis, shared shuttles and car hire readily available; there are also regular connections to Gaborone and Johannesburg via regional carriers. Typical costs are affordable for scheduled services but safari charters can be expensive; the field is a base for Air Botswana and numerous safari operators such as Mack Air, Wilderness Air and regional carriers like Airlink.
