Marabá Airport opened in the mid-20th century (around the 1950s) and today operates from a single passenger terminal, serving as a compact but vital gateway for the Carajás mining region and southeastern Pará. The airport is modest in size but important for regional connectivity, with regular links to larger Brazilian hubs and seasonal services to major cities; it has been modernized over time to handle turboprops and regional jets. Located roughly 8–12 km from downtown Marabá, it’s reachable by car, taxi and limited local bus services, with on-site car rental available. Travelers generally find fares competitive for domestic routes, though last-minute regional flights can be pricier; the airport is served by national and regional carriers such as Azul and Gol alongside smaller operators rather than functioning as a major airline hub.
